Action Research!

Action Research Day 1

One of teachers in this workshop today suggested me to read this book,
before I started to do "Action Research".  Be prepare before lessons.

A study meeting for English teachers in Aichi
I just remembered that today's speaker was a part time lecture at the uni which I graduated from.
What a small world !!

One suggestion for my teaching:
Self-reflection is essential for expand learners' meta language abilities.
According to one of participants, meta language in terms of language learning defines that how to analyze oneself's language learning  objectively.
Therefore it is important for learners to reflect what they leaned in the language classroom.
This self-evaluation method has been allied in my classroom. I will continue record students' improvement.

One more suggestion from experienced teachers is that recording my lessons by using video devices.
This my first experiment by using the video !!  Sounds like a plan.

By the way, this is my next challenge to attend to this workshop. I cannot wait for that.

Packing Day 1
A long way to go...... but now my kitchen is sparkling clean. Heeee heeeee.

All the best,

One of my aims is that to conduct lecturers and classrooms in English from this April.
Some of classes and lectures in both Korea and Japan may have similar difficulties and issues.

A lack of English proficiencies among teachers and students can cause big "???...????...." in their brains when the classes are conducted in English only (which is not their first language).
I will experiment it soon. It is very interesting for me when my students did not understand what I said in the classroom, how I am going to scaffold them.

A Sunday Study Meeting !

2011/03/06, Sunday

One of my colleagues was a speaker for discussion lesson today.
This is a monthly study meeting's schedule at Cultural Path Futaba Museum.

Listening practice: listening and reproduction (2 hours)
Discussion practice: approximately 1.5 hours

Today's topics are:
(1) Daigo Fukuryumaru: http://d5f.org/top.htm

in 1954, the U.S. hydrogen bomb blew up at the Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands. The Daigo Fukuryumaru, a tuna fishing boat, was operating near the Rongelap Atoll, which was thought to be outside the warning area and was about 160km away from Bikini Atoll. A few hours later, radioactive pieces of coral reef called "Ash of Death" poured down on 23 crew members of the boat.

(2) SONY's walkman
(3) Kate Middleton & Prince William

Firstly, learners listen and take a memo while they are listening to dialogues.
Learners reproduce what they just listened to, which is a good training to improve listening and speaking proficiencies.

A workshop at University of Shizuoka

2010. 6th March, Saturday

I attended to a workshop at University of Shizuoka. I love this architecture and design of the uni buildings.

I can apply Text-based language learning and teaching in my classroom.
A role play demonstration in front of the native English teachers made me nervous. It was a great opportunity for me to be assessed by them.
I really appreciate professors and teachers who helped me at the workshop.

静岡県立大学にて、英語教員向けのワークショップがありました。
ロールプレーで先生役をつとめる事になりました。
自分の立ち振る舞いを、大学の先生にアセスメントされる貴重な経験となりました。
Text-based teaching、これ私の授業にも取り入れていきます。
